  2. 2

Roll them onto their back, pull the brief through between the legs and smooth it flat.

  3. 3

Fasten the lower tabs first, pointing slightly up, then the upper tabs pointing slightly down.

  4. 4

Run a finger around the leg cuffs so they stand up against the skin.

When it fits

A parent cared for at home, the weeks after surgery, someone who spends most of the day in bed or a chair, and the heaviest nights. For someone who can stand and dress, a pull-up is easier.

Caring for a parent

For carers, the NIA suggests regular reminders to use the bathroom, and MedlinePlus asks you to clean and dry the skin soon after every leak.
